Digital Media and Education

This podcast is about the impact of digital media on education, it specifically highlights the example of a game based learning technique “MERIT” adopted by various universities to train construction management students. The main aim of this podcast is to convey the message that digital media has an upper edge to improve student learning and engagement provided the students are aware of the consequences of irresponsible use of digital media and the internet. The strategy used to come up with this particular podcast was to relate to the current digital media technique used by universities that have a positive impact on student learning and engagement. The article by Murray and Buchanan on how children and young adults are more aware of the correct usage of digital media and internet helped me narrow down my topic to MERIT game and its impact on students. It was challenging and tough to narrow down the podcast topic to one particular example of digital media tools. As schools and universities have come up with a wide variety of game based learning techniques all of which are equally effective to improve student learning. The content with regards to digital media and its impact on education is vast and therefore, it was really challenging to plan and script the content of the podcast. I ensured that the content I speak of in the podcast is to the point and gives a clear understanding of what the listeners need to understand. Personally this is the first time i am using sound cloud to create a podcast and since I am not a well-informed user of it i tried to keep the podcast simple without any enhancing media to support it. Since it was the very first time i was creating a podcast the whole experience of it was a bit overwhelming. I has a lot of questions and got stuck in a lot of ways when it came to the editing of the content to best convey my message. I had to record the content multiple time before i came up with a decent one that i could post. The experience of creating this podcast has made me a bit more confident using it as a medium to communicate better in the future. The next time i would try to introduce some music and artwork to support my podcast content and make it more interesting for the listeners.
